If you had asked me a few years ago when I thought my career would begin, I would have said after graduation. But life had other plans.
While still in my fourth year, I got the opportunity to start working at Big Bold Red (BBR), and that changed everything. What began as supporting website development quickly became the start of a much bigger journey. I was exposed to real client work, real deadlines, real expectations, and real pressure earlier than I imagined. I moved from website development into Quality Assurance, and suddenly I was no longer just learning in class. I was learning through real projects that mattered.
It was not easy. There were moments of doubt, feeling behind, and questioning whether I was ready to be in rooms with experienced engineers. Reviewing systems, identifying issues, and contributing to products people actually use felt overwhelming at times. What made the difference was the team around me. I worked with people who believed in me, challenged me, and mentored me. That support created space to grow, ask questions, make mistakes, and keep improving. Over time, I learned that being a great Quality Engineer is not just about finding bugs. It is about critical thinking, attention to detail, protecting the user experience, and becoming someone the team can trust from the very beginning.
Today, I work confidently with engineers, communicate clearly, and take ownership of the quality of what we build. This journey has taught me that technical skill matters, but so do communication, resilience, adaptability, collaboration, and leadership. Most importantly, I have learned that growth does not wait until you feel ready. It begins in uncertainty, shaped by opportunity, mindset, and the people who believe in you before you fully believe in yourself.
